Google supported 965,000 jobs & generated PKR 3.9 trillion in Pakistan. Google’s Economic Impact Report for Pakistan was launched last week. The report brought highlights of mainly Google’s impact for the 2023 for Pakistan. One of the key highlights was Google’s support for Pakistan in job creation. It states Google was able to provide 965,000 jobs to Pakistanis under different programs. Interestingly, it also shares the huge economic impact of Google’s activities on Pakistani economy. It claims generation of PKR 3.9 trillion for troubled South Asian economy.
Kyle Gardner, Google’s Public Policy Lead for South Asia Region was part of several policy discussions with the government. Google launched Agay Barho campaign for engaging the youth in digital economy. There were discussion on major policy enablers for boosting digital exports and enhancing digital skilling.
Google Chromebook Production in Pakistan
As Google’s partnership increases in Pakistan, it is beginning the production of its Chromebook locally. Last week, a pre-produced Chromebook to be assembled in Pakistan was also presented to the Prime Minister. This new partnership is under the umbrella of Google for Education.
A roundtable was organized with senior policy makers. It was to showcase how Google is helping to upskill an AI-ready workforce and ensures effective AI deployment through investing in infrastructure. Moreover, it also shows how Google’s AI promotes adoption and accessibility.
Moreover, Google is also launching Digital Sahafat in Pakistan. Literally meaning Digital Journalism, the initiative is an important milestone for digital content creators and journalists in the country. This Google News Initiative will train 1,000 journalism students and journalists across multiple cities in Pakistan.
The milestones of the last year are exemplary for an economy like Pakistan. Google supported 965,000 jobs & generated PKR 3.9 trillion in Pakistan in 2023. The increasing interest of tech giants in Pakistan holds massive opportunities for the country ahead, especially with the challenging economic situation for the fiscal year 2024-25.
