US Embassy issues official statement on Zahir Jaffer. The official statement of the Embassy clearly states that U.S. citizens are subject to that country’s laws. The statement comes as Zahir’s case is proceeding in the limelight. One of his claims is viral where he states that he is a US citizen. Moreover, Zahir had told his friends before committing the murder that he is a U.S. citizen. Thus, he will easily avoid any legal proceedings in Pakistan.
Yet, Noor’s murder took the entire nation in shock. Resultantly, the issue went viral and everyone in Pakistan was speaking about Noor’s murder on social media. The issue became a top trend in Pakistan during Eid-ul-Adha holidays. It also invited international interest as the brutal murder was being condemned from everywhere.
Although, this step was an individual action. However, the murderer Zahir Jaffer had spoken about his U.S. nationality as savior from any legal proceedings in the country. This led to an official response from the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. It clearly states, “When Americans are arrested abroad, the Embassy can check on their well-being and provide a list of lawyers, but cannot provide legal advice, participate in court proceedings or effect their release.”
The official tweet is here:
In a foreign country, U.S. citizens are subject to that country’s laws. When Americans are arrested abroad, the Embassy can check on their well-being and provide a list of lawyers, but cannot provide legal advice, participate in court proceedings or effect their release.

Thus, it removes any ambiguity that the United States will play any direct role in releasing Zahir Jaffer.
Issue of Raymond Davis
Thus, the topic “Raymond Davis” is becoming the top trend in Pakistan. This is specifically due to multiple responses to the U.S. Embassy on the issue of Zahir Jaffer. The people are corelating the arrest of Zahir Jaffer with Raymond Davis.
Senator Sehar Kamran was appreciative of the U.S. Embassy in her reply to their statement.
Appreciate the clarification, no one is above law.
Murderer #ZahirJaffer must be punished for the gruesome murder.
Many of us have sleepless nights & extremely painful heart wrenching moments, such brutal crimes have terrorised the society.
Timely Justice is the only answer.— Senator Sehar Kamran T.I. (@SeharKamran) July 27, 2021
Yet, a number of users were quarreling on Raymond’s issue instead. There were responses in favor of the Embassy as well as against the U.S. government. While the discussion may continue, the clear stance of U.S. Government may provide relief to those who think that U.S. citizens can get away with any crime in Pakistan.
