Apple is launching a foldable iphone. The global tech giant is reportedly planning on launching its own foldable phone by 2022. The company is working on developing a foldable with a display thinner than its rivals and is collaborating with LG and Samsung to develop the panels for the device.
According to reports, Samsung will be the main supplier for the foldable panels and the first foldable iPhone will use Samsung’s LTPO-based OLED panels. Meanwhile, LG will be the secondary supplier. Cupertino is hoping its collaboration with LG can guarantee increased production and volume capacity and reduce costs.
Apple is already working on developing prototypes of the foldable iPhone. Leaks suggest that the impending foldable will have a clamshell design like Samsung’s Galaxy Z flip and will come with support for Apple Pencil.
Moreover, experts speculate that the handset will be more affordable than the competing models. However, the introduction of foldable phones will definitely increase the company’s sales. The GlobalStats Statcounter claims that Apple has a market share of 26.96%. One of its major competitors, Samsung, has a share of 27.31%. This is definitely concerning for Apple as it intends to be the global phone giant.
Apple’s Competitors
Several Chines brands including Xiaomi, Vivo, Huawei and Oppo also enjoy a major share n the global mobile phone sales. It gives Apple a significant challenge to deal with the market leadership in phone segment.
Although, Apple has its own software and other mobile companies are dependent on Google for its Android technology.
The prices of Apple phones have been concerning. Moreover, most of its products are not compatible with other android phones. This is one of the major reasons that users of Apple or android technology often find it difficult to switch between the technology. Yet, let’s hope that the foldable phones will strengthen Apple towards achieving higher sales in future.
