Once close allies, Musk had previously donated hundreds of millions to Trump’s campaign. Their fallout highlights growing tensions as Musk’s political stance appears to shift toward the center.

As tensions between Elon Musk and Donald Trump continue to grow, Musk has openly criticized Trump’s major tax and spending plan, known as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” He called the bill a “disgusting abomination,” warning that it would add trillions of dollars to the national debt.

Trump said Musk was “disrespectful to the office of the president” and expressed disappointment. Additionally, he threatened to stop federal contracts with Musk’s businesses. Trump claimed on Truth Social that Musk had gone “crazy.”

Despite Elon Musk’s charges on Donald Trump, the majority of Republicans still back him. Vice President JD Vance claimed Musk was being “emotional,” but he still called the statement a “huge mistake” to podcaster Theo Von.  Additionally, Vance informed that Musk had gone so nuclear to be able to rejoin Trump.

Elon Musk has hinted that he might support Trump’s rivals in the upcoming elections. He could help Democrats who oppose the tax and spending bill. In response, Trump warned Musk that he will face “serious consequences” if he continues to support Democratic politicians.
