Dengue Alert issued for Islamabad. The authorities have issued an alert to medical facilities in Islamabad to prepare for dengue related illnesses. The alert is for major public hospitals including (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and the Polyclinic Hospital. Moreover, the alert warns that there could be increasing number of cases in the next few days.
The alert shows that dengue could easily become an emergency situation if steps aren’t taken to control it. The district administration is already putting efforts to control the larvae through various coping mechanisms. The dengue virus is spread through a specific mosquito in the summer season. They are able to form larvae in places with water. Thus, the authorities always recommend to keep oneself away from water facilities.
Dengue results in deficiency of platelets in the person getting it. It also turns into life threatening disease in case there isn’t any proper treatment.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention shares that you may see the following symptoms of dengue:
- Belly pain, tenderness
- Vomiting (at least 3 times in 24 hours)
- Bleeding from the nose or gums
- Vomiting blood, or blood in the stool
- Feeling tired, restless, or irritable
It also suggests to see a doctor immediately to ensure proper treatment for the disease.
Dengue in Pakistan
Dengue has remained a huge threat to Pakistan’s health system for the past few years. Every summers, thousands of people across all provinces. The first official outbreak of dengue in Pakistan was in the year 1994. Some of the summers have been catastrophic since then.

There were 48,000 confirm cases of dengue in the earlier years of the decade of 2010. There were 350 deaths in the city of Lahore in the year 2011 as dengue was wild in that year and the authorities weren’t prepared. Recently, a total of 79 people died as a result of dengue virus in 2019.
