Pakistan responds to overseas dissidents misinformation campaign

Pakistan responds to overseas dissidents misinformation campaign. The campaign argues that Pakistani establishment is targeting the overseas Pakistanis and foreigners alike. It focuses on a recent case where a Pakistani dissident known as Ahmad Waqas Goraya was a target. However, the Pakistani government is issuing its official statement for record.

The official statement describes the ongoing campaign as false narrative against the country. It rejects the media reports and calls them as unsubstantiated allegations.

It may be of interest as Pakistan was a victim of famous international media targeting through fake or dubious accounts. The famous case involving the Indian government was brought to light by EU disinformation lab. The episode is famous as ‘Indian Chronicles.’

Moreover, another case of kidnapping of Afghan Ambassador’s daughter came up as major highlight on international media. Yet, the investigations and evidence had a different picture. Rather, it showed that Afghan ambassador’s daughter Silsila’s kidnapping was staged by hostile agencies. Thus, the government came up with an official statement from Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Official Statement from Pakistan

“We categorically reject the unsubstantiated media reports alleging Pakistan cracking down on overseas dissidents. There is no question of any threat being made to any national of any state including Pakistan’s own nationals living anywhere on any pretext whatsoever. The unsubstantiated allegations appear to be part of the rather blatant on-going misinformation campaign against Pakistan to malign the country and its state institutions. Pakistan is a parliamentary democracy with a vibrant civil society, free media and independent judiciary, which remains fully committed to the promotion and protection of human rights for all its citizens without discrimination. Our strong commitment to the right to freedom of opinion and expression is demonstrated by presence of scores of vibrant media channels and newspapers in the country. Provision of a platform for peddling of unsubstantiated and false narratives against Pakistan by any news outlet is indeed regrettable.”
