What the US Election 2024 means to the world? Well, the US elections are always important. Yet, the 2024 elections may result in major changes to our entire world in the coming few years.

The role of the United States across the world is evident as its policies affect every nation state. As a global leader in economy, health, technology and human rights, the US policy matters for many. Many developing countries depend upon the US government’s policy for aid, trade, development and their defense needs. Moreover, the US government also plays a major role in shifting of agendas, war zones as well as trade hubs. With such a hegemonic role around the world, the elections in the United States are a definite concern of everyone around the world. And while every US election has played a major role in policy shift; each new election brought a new set of challenges around the world.

For instance, the Presidential Elections of 2000 changed the course of entire world with War on Terror in several Muslim countries including Afghanistan and Iraq. Similarly, the 2008 election brought President Barack Obama in the White House. In his era, there was more focus on the Arab region and resulted in Arab Spring. During his rule, the South Asia policy was realigned and efforts were made to get out of Afghanistan. However, the 2016 elections saw a complete new shift in the US voters choices. It was unimaginable that Trump would win. However, he won. And there were several reasons. Apart from voters tiredness of Democrats, the US voters weren’t prepared to hand over their government to a woman. Thus, Hillary Clinton could not compete with President Trump at the time. Yet, the 2020 elections were able to bring the Democrat Presidency back to Washington, DC.

Biden’s Presidency

Although, there were several challenges Biden faced as President.  One of the initial problems was to counter the fake news and Trump’s narrative of US Establishment’s role in bringing in Biden. It was the first time that the supporters of Trump were able to target Capitol Hill. However, as things settled, there were several other challenges for President Biden. The withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan occurred during Biden’s Presidency in 2021. Similarly, there was a major focus on economic strengthening of the United States while following the old rules of open trade around the world. President Biden was able to return to the US policy of open trade with China unlike President Trump’s. Moreover, there was an effort of managing the conflict between Israel and Palestine in a humane manner. He is trying for an amicable solution to the current fighting in the region.

Although, he is much older; he was able to manage many conflicts within and outside the United States in a much organized manner. Moreover, he was able to implement the policy decisions which many of his predecessors could only promise. One such example is the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

How important is the US Election 2024?

If we observe the happenings around the world, one can surely see the importance of the 2024 Presidential election. One after another, there is a crisis brewing up. Whether it is the Middle East or Europe, South Asia or East Asia; the world is seeing several crisis at once. The Russia Ukraine war is awaiting its logical end for years. The Afghanistan crisis is still in place. The Israel Palestine conflict is also not settling anywhere. At the same time, the global economy is facing a not very similar crisis. Most of the countries are unable to pay back their debts. Sri Lanka faced a default only a year ago. A few other countries such as Pakistan stand on the brink. With all these things happening around, the internal politics in the United States is also disturbed. The assassination attempt on Donald Trump is one such occurrence. Whether this attempt will benefit the former President is yet to be seen.

With all these challenges standing upfront, the likely choice of American voters is also worrisome for the people around the world. The choice for US voters again stands on the same page. Kamala Harris is a woman contender against Trump. She is from a foreigner background with her parent’s roots from India and Jamaica. Moreover, the pressing issues at home and abroad are so interconnected that the voters may shift with each act or dialogue.

This entire situation is definitely concerning for people living across many borders a round the world. However, given the strong democratic traditions in the United States, the elections may result in a good luck to the entire world.
