Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arrives in Pakistan for Enhancing Cooperation. Pakistan’s Forign Office made a public announcement a day before the arrival of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr. Alexei Overchuk. Mr. Alexei Overchuk is accompanying a high level delegation to Pakistan on 18-19 September 2024, the statement reads.

The statement further adds that Pakistan and Russia enjoy cordial relations based on goodwill, amity and trust. Further, it is reflected in the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation including in trade, energy and connectivity.

Pakistan has been trying to woo Russia for past several years. However, the War in Ukraine became a major hurdle for increasing economic or trade ties with Russia for Pakistan. In fact, former Prime Minister Imran Khan claims his exit due to his prospective deal of directly importing Russian Crude Oil from the former Soviet nation.

This visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Russia and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of trade, energy, and connectivity. Mr. Alexei Overchuk will hold meetings with Pakistan’s President , Prime Minister , Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

Pakistan faces severe energy crisis for the past few years. The country has been looking forward to find sustainable partnerships in the fields of trade, energy and connectivity. Therefore, this visit also underscores the ongoing collaboration between the two nations, particularly in the realm of energy.

While Russia is looking to partner with the global community amid sanctions from the Western countries. This high level visit may result in changing pattern of relationship between the two countries.
