Pakistan Single Window (PSW) arranged an awareness session on harassment at workplace in its head office in Islamabad. The session was delivered by Federal Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace Ms. Kashmala Tariq. The event was attended by members from PSW and Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace.
PSW is committed to the protection of its workforce and has devised policies and mechanisms to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all the team. The awareness session was arranged to improve the PSW team’s understanding of different perspectives on harassment.
Chief Executive Officer of PSW Syed Aftab Haider welcomed the Federal Ombudsman and said that PSW is the only organization in the country with highest level of digitization in its scope of work. He appreciated her effort to increases awareness amongst different organizations on harassment issues. “We want to ensure safety of all our colleagues, especially women and this session will serve to further strengthen our resolve in fighting workplace harassment,” he added.
Workplace Harassment in Pakistan
Workplace harassment is a global issue and several public and private sector entities in Pakistan have been focusing on handling these issues through developing systems and policies against it. This session shows the resolve of PSW in dealing with any such incident. The Board of Directors of PSW has already approved Harassment Policy for the organization.
Federal Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace Ms. Kashmala Tariq praised the culture of PSW and spoke on different scenarios around harassment. She added, “creating awareness is the greatest challenge and that is why I personally reach out to different organizations to increase public information regarding harassment laws.”
She further added that the harassment laws and committees are also for men, and not only women. Moreover, she also emphasized that every organization must clearly display the code of conduct in a visible place in their office.
